Dear Friends, As an organization, part of our advocacy involves critiquing complex systems of oppression. We study how emerging technologies are designed and deployed, and we document their impact on vulnerable communities. Reversing this flow of power requires building coalitions across disciplines. It calls for an expansive understanding of the possibilities of data. Many of you in the D4BL network recognize this and are already working in various ways to leverage data and technology to shift the status-quo. Data for Black Lives is here to support and amplify your work. We remind you to apply to our inaugural Movement Scientist Fellowship. Applications are due on April 28. A Movement Scientist is someone who is equipped with the skills, vision, creativity, and empathy needed to harness the power of data for social change. They possess a willingness to break down barriers that isolate those who build technology from those most directly impacted by it. About the Movement Scientist Fellowship Fellows will be awarded up to $50,000 to develop a project engaging any of the following themes:
